Today, Allevia Hospitals proudly joins the global health community in celebrating International Nurses Day, a day dedicated to honouring the extraordinary contribution nurses make to the wellbeing of patients and communities around the world.
Held each year on 12 May in recognition of Florence Nightingale’s legacy, International Nurses Day is an opportunity to acknowledge the skill, compassion, and dedication that define the nursing profession. At Allevia Hospitals, our nurses are at the heart of the safe, human‑centred care we provide to more than 20,500 patients and their whānau every year.
Honouring our nurses and everyone who supports them
While today shines a spotlight on nursing, it is also a moment to recognise the many people who work alongside our nurses every day: our clinical teams and support staff and all those who contribute to the patient journey. Excellent care is always a collective effort, and we are deeply grateful for the teamwork, compassion and professionalism that underpin everything we do.

To mark International Nurses Day, we sat down with several members of our nursing team to share their journeys, motivations, and reflections on what nursing means to them. Their stories highlight the diverse pathways into the profession and the passion that drives their work.
